Changes to Ordeal Candidate Notification Process
Effective January 1, 2024, the Sipp-O Lodge Executive Committee has made changes to the timing of notification of results to newly elected Ordeal Candidates. Units will conduct elections as in the past to identify new Ordeal candidates. The Sipp-O LEC recommends that all newly elected candidates be notified of their eligibility immediately following the election by their troop in accordance with the recommendations set forth by the National Order of the Arrow Committee. Units who wish to have youth learn of their eligibility through a call-out may do so at each of the Good Turn Weekend Call Out Ceremonies at Seven Ranges Scout Reservation in the Spring. Sipp-O Lodge leadership will notify all Ordeal candidates of their eligibility by 5/18/25 with an invitation to the Spring Ordeal. Candidates may choose to also have public recognition at the call-out ceremony during their week of Summer Camp even if they have already completed the Ordeal.
Why is this change being made?
Earlier notification of eligibility allows for more opportunities to complete the Ordeal and begin participation in the Order of the Arrow. Additionally, this change aligns with key recommendations and guidance from the National Order of the Arrow Committee.
Can our scouts wait to have their public recognition at Summer Camp?
Sipp-O Lodge encourages newly elected candidates be notified of their eligibility by their troop immediately following the election. Any newly elected candidate may receive public recognition at a call-out at either a Good Turn Weekend or at Summer Camp. All candidates will receive notification and an invitation to the Spring Ordeal by 5/18 directly from the Lodge. Any youth who complete the Ordeal that would also like public recognition at the Summer Camp call-out may do so.
