2020-2021 Charter Renewal

Annually each Chartered Organization renews its charter with the Boy Scouts of America which assures that the Chartered Organization is using Scouting's programs – whether Pack, Troop, Team, Crew, Ship, or Post – to serve youth, and that the unit roster is up to date. This annual renewal is called "RECHARTERING".

Veterans who have been through this process will have no trouble, but for those Scout leaders who are submitting a charter for the first time, your District Commissioner and District Executive are there to help you.  Their contact information is listed in the recharter handbook, for reference. A training session will be conducted at each district Roundtable in the coming months and all Unit Committee Chairs and Chartered Organization Representatives are encouraged to attend.

Charters should be submitted online and the paperwork printed, signed and full fee payment attached, all of which is then submitted to your Unit Commissioner or District Executives by the due date below.  Once this is complete, the registrar can renew your unit’s charter in a timely manner.

Your unit’s on time renewal assists in your qualifying for Journey to Excellence status and can earn your unit free rank advancement for one year!

Membership Cards and Charter Certificates

Effective January 1, 2019, Unit Key 3's have access to view and print their charter certificate and membership cards in my.scouting.org. Because of this change, the Buckeye Council will no longer be printing membership cards and charter certificates effective January 1, 2019.

This “self-service” functionality allows volunteers to print membership cards and the unit charter certificate in a timely manner and enhances the onboarding experience for new youth and adults.
