BASIC LEADER TRAINING  | Position Specific TrainingPosition Specific Training is a course required for registered leaders of all Scouting programs levels (Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturing) to earn their Trained status. The Position Specific Training program is tailored to the specific position that the leader holds. It provides the specialized knowledge a new leader needs to assume a leadership role. Position Specific Training is available online at the BSA Learn Center through my.scouting.org . You can also attend a training taught by informed volunteers on a district or council level. |

You do not have to be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America to take Youth Protection training. | | Intro to Outdoor Leader SkillsIntroduction to Outdoor Leader Skills(IOLS) is the final course required for Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters of Boy Scout troops and Crew Advisors Assistant Crew Advisors of Venturing Crews with an outdoor focus to earn their Trained status. This course is an outdoor training experience designed to teach the skills it takes to be a First Class Scout. This training is usually done on a Friday night through Saturday and is put on by the Council training team. IOLS is a required course for all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters to be considered trained for their position. |

| Philmont Training CenterThe Philmont Training Center (PTC) is the national volunteer training center for the Boy Scouts of America. Since 1950, the PTC has provided a unique environment for training volunteers, creating leaders, and hosting family friendly experiences and adventures. Each year, more than 6,000 Scouters and their families attend the PTC. Every conference at the PTC features tools, techniques, audiovisuals, discussions, idea sharing, and activities led by a faculty of experienced Scouters. All registered Scouters are invited to attend training center courses; council approval is not required. |
