History of the Buckeye Council

In 1911, the first Scout Troop in the area was organized in Massillon.   A year later the first Boy Scout Troop formed in Canton.  The Buckeye Council came into existence when the McKinley Area Council (Canton) and The Massillon Area Council merged in October of 1958.  Now located in Canton, the Buckeye Council serves 9000 youth and 3000 adults in Wayne, Holmes, Stark, Tuscarawas, Carroll and Columbiana counties in Ohio and parts of Hancock County in West Virginia.

January 1, 2017 The Heart of Ohio Council gifted Johnny Appleseed Trail and Harding Area Districts to the Buckeye Council, bringing the total youth served to 10,000+ youth and 3,400+ adults in The Buckeye Council. The Buckeye Council now serves the following counties Ashland, Carroll, Columbiana, Crawford, Holmes, Marion, Morrow, Richland, Stark, Tuscarawas, Wayne, Wyandot in Ohio and parts of Hancock county in West Virginia.
