Open Letter of Invitation
Dear Scouter: In 1911, Baden-Powell took the first steps in training Scouting's adult leaders by organizing a series of lectures for Scouters. He made great strides in the years that followed, culminating in 1919 with the establishment of Wood Badge training. Wood Badge recipients now number more than 100,000 and can be found in all corners of the world.
The object of a Wood Badge course is to facilitate, as practically as possible, your delivery of the aims and methods of Scouting. Six days in duration, the course is a multifaceted presentation of leadership skills, organizational tools, and participatory activities based on the best of Scouting traditions and the latest in team development theory. This will be a tremendous opportunity for you to: Ø Understand Scouting as a family of interrelated, values-based programs providing age-appropriate activities for youth. Ø Recognize contemporary leadership concepts used in America and discover how those concepts are relevant to our values-based movement. Ø Apply the skills you learn from your participation as a member of a successful working team. Ø Revitalize your commitment to Scouting by sharing in an inspirational experience that helps to provide Scouting with renewed leadership to accomplish its mission.
In addition, participants will enjoy the fellowship of learning alongside many other volunteer and professional Scouters, and along the way will have a great deal of fun.
Many Scouters consider Wood Badge to be a mountaintop experience of their Scouting careers. It has served as a source of training and inspiration to thousands. In return, Wood Badge participants have positively affected the lives of millions of America's youth.
The course will be conducted at Seven Ranges Scout Reservation in two three-day sessions. The dates are August 15, 16, 17, 2008, (Fri, Sat & Sun) and September 6, 7, 8, 2008, (Sat, Sun & Mon). Course enrollment is limited. The enclosed Acceptance of Invitation will reserve a spot on this course for you, reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
The course fee will be: $230.00 if paid in full by March 1, 2008 $240.00 if paid in full by May 1, 2008 $250.00 if paid in full after May 1, 2008 The fee will include food and course materials.
I sincerely hope that you can participate. You will enjoy it fully and benefit from it immensely. You are to be commended for the work you are now doing in Scouting. Wood Badge training will enable you to make an even greater contribution as you help deliver the promise of Scouting.
If you should have any questions, or if you would like to have someone visit with you, please feel free to contact me. I am also available to give a short presentation at any Scouting event.
I urge you to return the attached Acceptance of Invitation to me or the Buckeye Council Service Center as soon as possible.
Yours in Scouting,
