Training
A TRAINED LEADER is an EFFECTIVE LEADER
The training philosophy of the Boy Scouts of America is to provide adult leaders with the information about the aims and purposes of the movement as well as specifics about particulars roles in Scouting. A trained leader is knowledgeable and confident in the role being performed. Trained leaders have a positive influence on the lives of Scouts with a quality program.
The National Council has done extensive research, and a trained leader has a positive impact on the program. Units with Trained Leadership retain more boys in the Scouting program, and have more fun on the trail as they learned what resources and programs run and offer to give each boy the opportunity to get the most out of Scouting.
As a Trained Leader you will:
·
Learn about the Scouting program
·
Learn why we do it the way we do
·
Discover tools and methods on how to put on a good Scouting program
·
Meet other leaders who will share their experiences and ideas
·
Have fun through Scouting
Every boy deserves a Trained Leader.

Youth Protection Training - Youth and Adults
Youth Protection training is required for all BSA registered volunteers, regardless of their position. New leaders are required to take Youth Protection training before submitting an application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time the application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins.
Youth Protection training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.
Youth Protection Training is essential for a pack, troop or venturing crew to have a safe program for youth. Boy Scouts of America offers training for adults and youth using age appropriate materials. Parents are encouraged to attend this training to understand what is being done to protect their youth in the Scouting program. Training is available on-line at
My Scouting
as well as offered at various times within each district and at Summer Camp. The training must be repeated every two years.
