Operation Flag

Participate in Operation Flag this Memorial Day

Image result for operation flag boy scouts

With Memorial Day approaching at the end of the month, we reflect on and honor those who have served our country in the armed forces. Service is an important part of the Scouting program - service to others, service to our community, and service to our country. Last year over 98,510 hours of service was provided back to the community. Projects include participating in Good Turn Weekends at Seven Ranges Scout Reservation, food and clothing drives, beautification projects, and Operation Flag.

Each year, hundreds of Scouts participate in Operation Flag to demonstrate their duty to country. Scouts do a good turn by taking part in a Memorial Day or Independence Day event. Any Scout who participates earns a patch that can be purchased at any Scout office in the Buckeye Council. Sasha K., Cubmaster of Pack 84 in New Philadelphia says, "We enjoy participating in the Memorial Day Parade in New Philadelphia because it gives the Scouts an opportunity for our country, while honoring those who have lost their lives. It also gives the community a glimpse of our Pack in action. It's a great teaching moment to show how one can 'do their duty to God and Country' while being helpful, loyal, and reverent"

Scouts can participate in Operation Flag this Memorial Day or Independence Day by completing two of the following:
  • Decorate veteran graves with flags
  • Take part in a Memorial Day event
  • Retrieve Flags after the Holiday
  • Write an essay “Why do we celebrate Memorial Day/Independence Day”

Upon completion, fill out the form and stop by any Buckeye Council Service Center to purchase your Operation Flag patch for $2. Patches are first come, first serve.
