A Letter from our Reservation Director
Dear Scouts and Scouters,
It is my distinct pleasure to return as your Reservation Director for 2009. I am looking forward to yet another productive and exciting summer at Seven Ranges Scout Reservation. We hope to continue the progress as well as make your camping experience at Seven Ranges a rewarding one.
One of my favorite quotes of all time came from Margaret Mead who said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” This quote has stuck with me for many reasons. One of which is because I strongly believe in the strength of an individual to create a vision and enroll others in that vision in order to achieve great things. When I look forward to this summer, there are two words from that quote which stick out; “small group.” The Scouting Program is build upon the foundations of the patrol method, which is a small group of boys who works together as a team to achieve certain tasks throughout their week in camp. Whether it is planning a troop campfire or getting ready for the commissioners visit in the morning, the patrol must work together in order to achieve a common goal. The lessons of teamwork are important ones and this lesson is one which is sometimes easily overlooked.
For this summer, teamwork and the value of a team will be our focus. The leader of our team for the 2009 summer camping season will once again be Andy Mc Peek, Program Director of Camp Algonkin and Camp Calumet. As we focus on the vitality of a team and measure the impact that a small group can have on the world, our theme for the 2009 camping season will be T.E.A.M. I am sure that Andy and the rest of the summer camp staff will continue to build upon our past successes and will offer valuable lessons and examples.
In camp Akela, our Webelos Resident Camp, Gary Deprill will return for another summer. Having worked closely with Gary, I know that he will put on a great program for our Webelos scouts. The summer camp theme in Camp Akela will be “Akela goes Wild Wild West” I encourage you to take a trip down the ol’ dusty trail and visit Gary and the rest of the Akela staff during your week in camp.
Of course, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. We are here to serve you and your unit.
In the Spirit of 7R,
Travis Secrest 2009 Reservation Director
A Letter from our Program Director
Dear Scouts and Scouters,
I would first like to take this opportunity to personally welcome you and your units to Seven Ranges Scout Reservation, ver. 2009! I am proud to be returning for another summer as your Program Director, and I look forward to serving your units needs to ensure a quality week at camp.
This summer we will be focusing on the importance of Teamwork. Not only has Teamwork played a vital role in my success in Scouting, it has also made a significant impact on every other aspect of my life. There is nothing that a quality T.E.A.M. of individuals cannot accomplish. I am a believer in the patrol method, and I feel that a little competition is always healthy. With that being said, our theme for 2009 will be T.E.A.M.
It takes a quality T.E.A.M. to run a quality Summer Camp. I feel that our T.E.A.M. has formed together nicely. This particular T.E.A.M which I am talking about would be your Camp Staff. We have a stacked core of Directors, who have been hard at work since November, sharing ideas and experiences to provide yet another outstanding week for your units. I am very impressed with them and I know that your week is in good hands.
I look forward to building on our success from last summer, and I am proud to serve you yet again as your Program Director. You are now part of our T.E.A.M. and a very important aspect of a T.E.A.M. is communication. Please, do not hesitate to contact Travis or I, we are here to serve you!
In the spirit of 7R,
Andy McPeek 2009 Program Director peek_04@yahoo.com
